CEBU, Philippines — The BEST Center basketball clinic backed by Milo, the country’s biggest and longest-running basketball clinic, will make its annual stop in Cebu May 6 to 11 at the Sacred Heart School Mango Avenue campus gym.
Now on its 41st year, the BEST Center and Milo have partnered to stage basketball clinics nationwide and have produced many of basketball’s present and past stars.
Among the program’s biggest products include Kiefer Ravena, Thirdy Ravena, Kobe Paras, Chris Tiu, Jeron Teng and many others. Past products include Benjie Paras, Renren Ritualo and Jun Limpot.
The BEST Center clinic focuses on the basics of the sport, covering the main areas of ball-handling, shooting, and defense. Level 1 focuses on ball-handling, while Level 2 is a course on shooting. Level 3 is for defense. Also included in all levels are the areas of agility, proper running form, balance and stance.
The clinic is conducted with discipline as a training guide and camaraderie as an atmosphere among students who come from all over.
Being Asia’s first school for basketball, the clinic applies a learning approach that includes evaluation, testing and execution. The clinic’s coaches are teachers of the sport who also undergo specialized training under the BEST Center’s close watch.
The BEST Center was founded by former national team coach Nic Jorge who saw the need to teach the fundamentals of the sport way back in 1978. He partnered with Milo in implementing the clinic in Manila before going nationwide. The partnership between BEST and Milo now includes a nationwide basketball tournament, the SBP Passerelle Twin Tournament for the Under 12 and Under 15 age groups.
Today’s top players in the PBA, UAAP, NCAA, CESAFI and other top leagues are products of this program which is also fondly called “Milo BEST.”
The BEST Center is recognized by Philippine Sportswriters Association as a Hall of Fame awardee and was awarded the Olympism Award by the Philippine Olympic Committee.
