Yaw-Yan to strengthen grassroots program

Lemuel P. Maglinte - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Yaw-Yan ArDigma Cebu founder Master Benigno ‘Ekin’ Caniga Jr. aims to strengthen the grassroots program for combat sports in Cebu City as he encouraged more kids to enroll in the ongoing Yaw-Yan Summer Clinic at its headquarters situated at the fourth floor of the Coast Pacific Downtown Center along Sanciangko Street, Cebu City.

“We already have the Muay Thai Team Cebu City composed of the kids that were once product of our summer clinic. My goal is to discover more potentials not only in kickboxing but also in mixed martial arts, grappling and even arnis,” said Master Ekin.

Master Ekin, who is also the head of Muay Thai Association of the Philippines-Visayas, have produced regional and national medalists. Master Ekin is also preparing his team for a series of Muay Thai and MMA tournaments this year.

“Aside from giving these kids something productive to do this vacation, I also want to add new faces in my grassroots team."

He added that they already have a good number of students for the clinic, which opened last April 1 but they are still accepting enrollees.

Yaw-Yan is an all-out martial arts using the body as weapon. It trains students in different areas like punching, kicking, and ground fighting.

The other courses offered in the month-long clinic are combat self-defense and fitness boxing.
