CEBU, Philippines — It's all systems go for the eight edition of the All Women Ultra Marathon happening this Saturday at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu.
A total of 350 brave female runners will be joining the annual event, which is in line with the celebration of the International Women’s Month.
Dr. Willie Estepa said that there are foreign participants from Australia and United States that have already confirmed their participation in the 50-kilometer ultra-marathon.
Estipa added that 40 percent of the runners are newbies with the youngest runner is an 18-year-old, while the oldest is a 63-year-old grandmother.
"We would just like to remind everyone that there are 350 women who will be running starting on Saturday evening until the wee hours," said Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera. "We ask everyone to give way to the runners and we should treat our women runners with the utmost care and respect."
Marshalls, medical teams and police personnel will be deployed along the routes to secure the safety of the participants. The organizers have also coordinated to the corresponding barangays whose streets will be part of the route.
Gun start is at 10 in the evening on March 9 and is expected to end Sunday morning. Cut off time is 10 hours.
As part of the traditional awarding, the champion will be given a crown, a scepter and a robe, and will have her own moment on the stage as AWUM queen.
The proceeds of the event will be donated to the Cebu Hope Center, a home for sexually abused children.
