CEBU, Philippines — Remegio Galenzoga topped the 3rd Duke Harris III Memorial Open Chess Tournament over the weekend at the Barracks Chess Club in Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
Galenzoga finished the 8-round Swiss system competition with the highest output of 7.5 points to pocket the P5,000 champion's purse.
Grandmaster candidate Kim Steven Yap took home P3,000 for placing second with 7.0 points.
Duane Borgonia and National Master Merben Roque both posted 6.5 points but Borgonia received the P1,000 third prize courtesy of a higher tie-break output.
Roque placed fourth followed by Diego Abraham Claro with 6.0 points.
Rounding up the top 12 finishers were Edsel Montoya, Jason Salubre, Carlos Moreno, Genesis Apog, Jethro Esplanada, Kraig Quinain and Mark Mangubat with 6.0 points each.
Aaron Noblijas and Sheila Mae Diloy emerged as the top kiddie and lady players, respectively, with five out of eight possible points. - EBV
