CEBU, Philippines — The 1st Asia Pacific Network (APN) Enterprise 3on3 Open Chess Tournament gets underway with its first elimination round this weekend at the Ayala Chess Club located at the mall's lower ground floor near Under Armour.

"The initial goal of the tournament is to promote active minds in the office or in the work field," said Eduard de la Torre of the organizing Cebu International Chess Society. "Instead of just that, we broaden our scope and included everyone, because we all know that it is best to have active minds wherever we are, and whatever we do."

The first qualifying stage this Saturday is for 18 years old and under, while the second up to the sixth elimination round that will wind up on December 8-9 is open to all interested players.

The top two qualifiers per elimination round will advance to the semifinals set on December 15. The top three in each semis round will then proceed to the grand finals on December 16.

Aside from trophy, the champion in the month-long tilt backed up by PLDT, Radius Telecom and CyberPower will pocket P15,000. The second will take home P10,000, while the third to fifth placers will receive P5,000, P4,000, and P3,000, respectively.

On the other hand, the top board players will get a P1,000 bonus.

Registration fee is pegged at P700 for the 18-under and P1,000 for the open.

For further details, one may keep in touch with De la Torre at 0908-1635144 or send e-mail to [email protected]. - EBV (FREEMAN)
