Lagtang bags seniors division title in Gullas Cup
CEBU, Philippines — Lagtang survived a hard-fought battle against Cansojong, 73-71, to clinch the seniors division title in the Talisay City Sports Commission-organized 2018 Mayor Eduardo "Eddiegul" R. Gullas Cup Inter-Barangay Basketball Tournament last Saturday night at the Talisay City Sports Complex.
Leading by only four points after three quarters, 59-55, Lagtang laid down a steady offensive in the windup to escape with close but exhililarating victory.
Kevin Lozano, who topscored for Lagtang with 22 points, was honored as the Most Valuable Player.
Lozano was joined in the Mythical Five by his teammates Rhendy Alferez and Cyril Pedros and Cansojong's Philip Laurence Geraldez and Johncle Molero.
Alferez finished with 11 points while Ariel Bacacao chipped in 10 markers for Lagtang.
Molero and Geraldez paced Cansojong with a combined total of 29 points that went for naught.
In the fight for third place, Nikko Villaver sizzled with 22 points, while Melborne Alisoso and Dan Emmanuelle Globa each scored 13 as Dumlog outlasted San Isidro, 79-71.
John Maneja contributed 10 points for Dumlog, which trailed by seven after the first quarter, 18-11.
But Dumlog countered with a 27-14 rally to seize full control of the match at halftime, 38-32.
Jason mark Marzon led San Isidro with 19 points. Arbinson Gabison had 13 points, while Froilan Beltran and James Fuentes added 10 apiece in a losing cause.
