UC retains title in Malaysia table net fest
CEBU, Philippines — The University of Cebu table netters successfully defended their throne after outlasting Sri Lanka’s University of Sri Jayewardenepura, 3-1 at the end of the 13th Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) International Sports Fiesta over the weekend at the University Teknologi Mara in Malaysia.
Even with a relatively new lineup composed of John Vincent Cabaluna, Henby Vinze Betarmos, David Samuel Maneja, Henz Michael Lucero, Diana Oliverio, Jerame Saromines and Lindy Marie Darlo, UC was able to overcome the odds.
The UC Webmasters opened their bid with a 5-0 shutout of Indonesia’s University of Moratuwa. They then escaped past University of Sri Jayewardenepura, 3-2, to advance to the semifinals.
In the semis, UC pulled off a 3-2 squeaker over host UiTM to barge into the championship round.
In the final round, UC figured in a rematch with the Sri Lankans where they finished it off in the fourth set, 3-1.
