Alcoy,Bantayan start strong in Gov's Cup hoop

CEBU, Philippines — The Alcoy Siloy capitalized on Boljoon's slow start to ease through a 68-61 victory at the start of the 2nd Cebu Governor's Cup Inter-Cities and Municipalites Under-21 Developmental Basketball Tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last Sunday.

Earlier, Bantayan overwhelmed the Santa Fe Seafarers, 83-58.

As Boljoon struggled on its shots in the early goings, Alcoy established control by holding their opponents to just four points while scoring 19 for a 15-point lead after the first quarter.

Boljoon came back roaring in the second canto, but Alcoy kept their offensive guns on fire to maintain a 37-23 edge at halftime.

Boljoon outplayed Alcoy in the third, 19-13, but their efforts went in vain as Alcoy stood firmly on their ground to secure a seven-point win.

Hance Kervin Estrera and John Vic Olores paced Alcoy with 14 points each, while Carl Angelo Vitor chipped in 10 markers.

Carlo Binagatan and Asterio Glodove Jr. had 12 points apiece for Boljoon, while Perseus Jeff Tanilon tallied 10 points in a losing effort.
