CEBU, Philippines — It's green and go for the kick-off leg of the 2018 Cebu City Mayor's Cup Open Airsoft Series billed as 'Operation:Fallout' this weekend at the Sugbu grounds in South Road Properties.

"All systems are ready for our upcoming event," said deputy mayor for sports Jerry L. Guardo in a press conference yesterday  at the city hall. "I'm glad that there are teams from outside of Cebu that are joining in our tournament. Hopefully it will be successful."

Guardo said it's been six years already since a last airsoft tilt was held in Cebu that is why they are coming up with objective-based gameplay for airsoft afficionados across the region.

"More than the friendly competition, airsoft is about team building. It involves tactical skills especially on how to attack your enemy. But more importantly, it fosters camaraderie among team members," said Guardo.

All in all, 14 teams will be seeing action in the two-day joust jointly organized by Southern Cebu Airsoft Recon (SCAR) of Jeson L. Guardo and Guadalupe Airsoft Team (GAT) of Dionie Baylon  in partnership with the city government of Cebu under the flagship of Mayor Tommy Osmeña and the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) headed by chairman Ed Hayco.

Alex Macaling of SCAR said the three out-of-town entries are from Iloilo, Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental and San Carlos City in Negros Occidental.

The other contenders of the 21-man team contest are Crack Legion of Wu Laborada, Special Action Airsoft Tactic (SAAT) of Cesar Anasco, ML Loaded of Denjie Arcenas, Band of Airsoft (BOA)/Mandaue Airsoft Group (MAG), Deep Recon of McCoy Boiser, Eagle of Kicker Ko, Mizrach of Ge L. Co, Trident Knight of Jack basanez, Airsoft Force of the Philippines (AFP) of Siegfred Minosa Borces, Airsoft Krew Allegiance (Askal), and Seal 8.

They will play in a single round robin format that will start on Saturday morning. The championship match is scheduled at 3pm on Sunday.

To ensure the safety of participants while they see action on the field, the organizers are requiring them to wear proper battle gear and full seal eye protection.

Aside from trophies, the champion will pocket P30,000, while the second to fourth placers will receive P20,000, P10,000, and P5,000, respectively. — EBV
