City to fete running champ Joy Tabal
CEBU, Philippines — Cebuana Olympian Mary Joy Tabal is among the outstanding individuals who will be feted by the city of government of Cebu during its 81st Charter Day celebration on February 24.
Tabal, who won gold for the Philippines in the marathon event of the 2017 Southeast Asian Games, will be recognized for bringing pride and honor to the city in the field of long distance running.
The 26-year-old Tabal, who made history as the first Filipina marathoner in the Olympics two years ago in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, said the award makes her more proud of being a Cebuana.
"I’m happy and honored, and proud to be a Cebuana. It's an honor for me to be recognized. This recognition will surely boost my morale and I will be more inspired to do better in my career. This will also inspire other Cebuanos to excel in their respective fields," Tabal said.
Tabal and her fellow awardees receive a token of recognition during the testimonial dinner and awarding ceremony organized by the city government through the Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission on February 24 at the Waterfront-Cebu City Hotel and Casino. (FREEMAN)
