CEBU, Philippines — The organizers of the Cebu City Marathon will be making a crucial change in the route for next year’s edition of the annual race slated on January 14, starting and ending at the Phase 3 of Cebu Business Park.

Cebu Executive Runners Club president Kenneth Casquejo announced in a press conference at Cebu Grand Hotel yesterday that the runners in the full marathon distance will no longer pass through the South Road Properties.

“We will be running around Cebu City, but we will not anymore pass in the SRP. The city government urged us to make this adjustment because it may cause heavy traffic if the SRP will be closed especially that there are ongoing road works around the area,” Casquejo said.

Casquejo has assured though that they will be looking for an alternative route for the 42K race, something that will still highlightsome historical landmarks as a way to promote Cebu especially to foreign participants.

Aside from the 42K, the race also features the 21K half marathon, 10K and 5K fun run.

“The significance of the Cebu City Marathon is not only to promote tourism but also share to these foreigners the cultural heritage of Cebu,” Casquejo added.

Around 3,000 runners have already confirmed their participation, the bulk of which came from the 42K.

Interested parties have only until December 17 to register. Entry fee is pegged at P1,800 for 42K, P1,400 for 21K, P950 for 10K and P750 for 5K.

One may enlist at the New Balance Experience in Ayala Active Zone or online via www.cebumarathon.ph. (FREEMAN)
