Bulldogs, Mustangs keep winning ways in CWBC
CEBU, Philippines - The Bulldogs and Mustangs continue to live up to their billings as top title contenders in the Cebu Weekend Basketball Club at the City Sports Club-Cebu.
Ralph Belarmino had 23 points and four steals as the Bulldogs outfoxed the Bears enroute to a 73-50 romp, while Borgy de la Cruz had 19 points to power the Mustangs to a masterful 94-72 demolition of the Pandas.
The Bulldogs and the Mustangs thus currently share the overall lead with identical 9-1 records.
Ryan Llanos had 20 points for the Bears who dropped to 6-3, while Mel Duran charted 22 points and 12 rebounds but his double-double show went for naught as the Pandas suffered their sixth loss in 10 starts.
In the other game, Jax Bautista, one of the league organizers, churned out 17 points laced with seven assists and three steals as the Roosters annihilated the Dragons, 70-40.
Borgie Cabigas pulled down 13 points for the Roosters, who kept their hold of the solo second spot with an 8-2 slate. The Dragons crashed to their seventh loss against only two victories.
In other results, Prince Malana chalked up 16 points as the Toros overcame a 44-point explosion by Jig Paul Morales to tame the Tigers, 105-91, Roy Paspie came up with 22 points for the Mantis, who preyed on the Hogs, 93-73, Michael Cantonao banged in 25 points to lift the Penguins over the Scorpions, 72-62, while Matthew Coscos nailed 21 markers to lead the Pythons' 91-81 win against
