SWU Lady Cobras take Game 1
CEBU, Philippines - Defending champion Southwestern University - Phinma Lady Cobras found their right elements as they triumphed in Game 1 of their ‘best-of-three’ finals series against University of San Jose-Recoletos in the tertiary division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc., volleyball tournament at the University of San Carlos Gym yesterday.
After losing to the Josenians in the semis, the Lady Cobras showed superb spiking skills this time in their 25-15, 20-25, 27-25, 25-19 demolition of USJR.
Therese Rae Ramas and Floremel Rodriguez led SWU’s charge as they near a back-to-back championship. The Lady Jaguars have a chance to force a do-or-die game in Game 2 set on November 20.
USJ-R felt exhausted after winning the second set that gave the Lady Cobras a chance to steal the momentum and snared the two succeeding sets. SWU’s championship experience also proved to be big factor in the game.
In the start of the men’s semis, SWU and USJ-R both won their respective assignments.
SWU pulled off a 22-25, 25-9, 25-11, 25-18 victory over University of the Visayas, while the Jaguars annihilated the USC Warriors, 25-23, 25-23, 25-12. (FREEMAN)
