CEBU, Philippines - Southwestern University and University of San Carlos volleybelles proved to be force to reckon with as they both scored their third straight win in as many starts in the Central Visayas leg of the 14th Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League yesterday at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
SWU and USC topped their respective groups after finishing the elimination round with an immaculate 3-0 record.
Wella Ortega and Mary Rose Roncal led SWU’s charge against St.Theresa's College, 25-4, 25-10. SWU is joined by Abellana National School in the next round after the latter collected its second win at the expense of University of Cebu, 25-19, 25-21.
USC and host team SHS-AdC are the two top placers in Group B.USC sent University of Bohol packing with a 25-11, 25-2 triumph.
Sacred Heart, for its part, annihilated Southcrest School, 25-13, 25-6, for its second win in three games.
The semis will start this afternoon with SWU facing SHS-AdC, while USC takes on ANS. The winner in the cross-over round will play for the championship game tomorrow.
The champion of the Central Visayas leg will represent the region in national finals.— (FREEMAN)
