CEBU, Philippines - Veteran long-distance runners Desederio Engbino and Preciosa Sanchez handily won the TransCebu Night Marathon, a 42K race from Busay to Balamban, yesterday.
The 45-year-old Engbino completed the lung-busting run in three hours, 37 minutes and five seconds, comfortable enough to win the title over Edelberto Batiancile, who finished in 3:59:05. Bayani Alvarez wound up third with 4:20:11.
Sanchez, for her part, reigned supreme with the time of 5:23:05. Jurilyn Solis placed second in 6:09:34 followed by Rosalinda Cosino in 6:09:42.
Meanwhile, Kenyans dominated the Rocky My Run held at the Cebu Business Park.
Abraham Kilimo ruled the 12K men’s open in 31 minutes and 31 seconds, followed by Elmer Bartolo and Paul James Zafico with 42:59 and 44:52, respectively.
Ruffa Sorongon (55:11) was the fastest in the women’s premier as she outpaced Yshy Los Banos (1:06:16) and Ronabeth Saborin (1:09:57) for the crown.
Aside from Kilimo, two of his countrymen in Joseph Morori and Eric Chipsiror also came out victorious via the 6K and 3K action.
Morori finished first at the 6K mens with 20:12 clocking, while Cherry Andrin won the distaff side with 31:18. Chipsiror topped the 3K men’s class with a time of 11:24 as Carla Cosep won the girls class with 17:41 clocking. — (FREEMAN)
