CEBU, Philippines - Bowlingplex Tenpin Association mainstay Oscar Ornopia took the temporary lead among those vying for slots in the masters event of the 17th Sinulog Open National Bowling Tournament at the Gaisano Bowlingplex in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City.
After three games, Ornopia knocked down 1,277 pinfalls broken down into 435 in the team, 397 in the doubles and 414 in the singles.
Female bowler Vivian Padawan, also of BTA, trailed Ornopia with 1,274 pins, while BTA-PRIMA's Clarence Tiu runs third with 1,259 pins followed by BTA-ASPS's Boy Co with 1,251.
Cebuano national team members Xyrra Cabusas and Jomar Jumapao is at 14th and 18th with 1, 075 and 997 pins, respectively, in the qualifiers for the masters battle.
Only the top 48 in all three events will get to play in the masters. They will be joined by defending champion Sonny Dimaano.
In the team competition, the Single Ladies manned by Vivian Padawan, Inday Aguilar and Tess Regino sets the pace with 1,199 total output after two games.
The doubles event, on the other hand, has Dory Enoveso and Razel Nilsen leading the pack with 786 points combined. The tandem of Reggie Gulinao and Ed Aninon is at second with 773, while BTA President Bel Suelto and Boy Co stand third with 770 pins.
CETBA's Gulinao is also leading in the singles event with 445 pinfalls followed by BTA's Bede Ilano and Orly Enoveso with 443 points apiece. — (FREEMAN)
