CEBU, Philippines – Trisha Opon and Elloise Canillo of Southwestern University led the cast of winners in the age-group bracket of the inaugural 'Bunal og Kusog' badminton tournament at MetroSports in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.
Opon and Canillo outclassed Andrea Shane Aguillon of Abellana National School and Sharlene Tan of Matilda Bradford in straight sets, 21-4, 21-4 to clinch the girls 17-under title.
In the mixed doubles, University of Cebu's Joel Barriga Jr. and Shane Boloron defeated Mancao siblings Brian and Demi for the gold, 21-8, 21-7.
Boloron, together with Daisy Pregla, also snared the girls 15-under crown after they dumped Ezrah Grace Cayatas and Cielo Carlawan, 21-10, 21-7.
On the other hand, Brian Mancao and Haniff Sumalipao topped the boys 15 doubles after edging out Gonz Jelord and Rhys Tejano, 21-4, 21-4, while the mixed doubles saw Joseph Babad and Almary Ybanez winning the gold.
In the 13, under battle, the girls doubles were won by Karyll Rio and Zenah Bejasa over Yessa Villahermosa and Joan Therese Israel, 21-4,21-1, while the boys side had Allen Penute and Carl Canillo overpowering Bonn Aziole Yangan and Raymund Lee Jaca, 21-7, 21-4.
Rio and Penute also put their acts together to reign supreme in the under-11 mixed doubles at the expense of Mark Ville Agullan and Aleyan Nina Limosnero, 21-5, 21-9.
Rio, however, missed a triple victory as she and Eve Bejasa lost to Margarette Jacalan and Laura Lumapid in the girls 11 final, 21-14, 21-12.
Zinah Bejasa and Carl Louis Canillo grabbed part of the spotlight after they upended Ric Anthony Layasan and Shallonah Sam Felices, 21-7, 21-12 to rule the 13-under mixed doubles. (FREEMAN)
