CEBU, Philippines – Johnny Arcilla flashed his old deadly form in beating his doubles partner Ronald Joven to advance into the finals of the Palawan Pawnshop-Dagitab Festival Open Tennis Tournament yesterday at the Naga Tennis Club.
Arcilla blasted Joven in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to set up a championship showdown with Onyok Anasta, who pulled off the biggest upset in the five-day tilt after booting out the top-seeded Patrick John Tierro.
Anasta fought superbly in a two-set demolition of the country’s No.1 player. After coming up with a 6-0 whitewash in the opening session, there seems to be no stopping Anasta as he cruised to 5-2 lead before Tierro decided to call it quits.
In the final, it’s going to be a grudge rematch of sort, with Anasta eyeing vengeance at his loss to Arcilla in a major tournament in Davao City last month. (FREEMAN)
