CEBU, Philippines - Paknaan National High School kicked off its title campaign with a 37-14 whacking of Canduman National High School in the 18th Mandaue City Amateur Basketball Association (MACABA) season dubbed as the 'Ating Guro Cup' at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.
Only four teams are seeing action in the girls division that is included for the first time in the annual tournament founded by Aurelio Eslawan, Jr. The Paknaan girls hope to duplicate their winning formula when they play host to Mandaue City Comprehensive NHS this Sunday at 11:10 a.m.
In the boys 17-under, Mt. Olives Learning Center-A came up with a 59-46 triumph over Garing NHS in bracket A.
Mt. Olives now shares the lead with the University of the Visayas-Mandaue, which earned a lopsided 55-19 win against St.Paul CFI-Ramos.
In bracket B, Tingub and Don Gerardo llamera Ouano Memorial NHS hurdled their opening assignments.
Tingub pulled off a 56-54 squeaker over MCCNHS, while DGLOMNHS went through overtime before pulling off a close 61-57 decision over the University of Cebu (UC) Lapu-Lapu/Mandaue. (FREEMAN)
