CEBU, Philippines – It was Bonifacio's Day indeed yesterday with Bonifacio Monjas winning the inaugural Osmeña Peak Challenge in Dalaguete.
Named aftter one of the country's national heroes, Monjas had the day to himself as well after ruling the combined paved and trail run covering a total distance of 32 kilometers.
Monjas completed the grueling race in three hours and 57 seconds, way ahead of Desederio Engbino who settled for second place honors in 3:09:19.
Little-known Ramil Fajardo came out third with the time of 3:33:59 followed by Alster Arellano (4:06:33) and Laurence Furo (4:07:46), same time with Jay Yusores who wound up sixth.
The seventh to 10th placers in the men's open division were Merson Gasang (4:09:57), Ruberto Besties (4:14:30), Christopher Dignos (4:21:04) and Eljun Flores (4:35:14).
In the distaff side, Mereeis Ramirez posted the fatsest time of 4:11:51. She was trailed by Daisy Batac in 4:43:07 as Evangeline Balazuela landed at third in 5:00:27.
Rounding up the top 10 cast were Hannah Huana (5:01:42), Sharon Torres (5:12:49), Helen Dionson (5:14:33), Gigi Matutinao (5:26:17), Edna Gerali(5:28:42), Malu Busa (5:31:54) and Becca Pankhurst (5:34:03).
