CEBU, Philippines – Team Megabond stretched its unbeaten streak to five games in a row at the expense of Davies Paints, 83-78, in the Architects+Engineers Basketball Association’s 1st Corporate Cup at the University of San Carlos-Main gym.
Michael Cinco exploded with a league-best 51 points spiked with six rebounds and five assists for Davies Paints, but he was simply no match against the deadly Megabond troika of Romulo Anino, Loreniel Tequin, and Malvin Malicdem.
Anino fired 27 points, Tequin scored 24 on top of five rebounds and as many assists, while Malicdem nailed 23 markers laced with seven assists, five steals and four rebounds for Megabond, which took an eary 19-13 lead.
Behind the efforts of Cinco, Davies Paints rallied back in the second canto to wrest the driver’s seat at halftime, 36-32.
Davies Paints sustained its momentum to enjoy a six-point edge after three quarters, 63-57, but Megabond dropped a 26-15 bomb in the windup to turn things around in its favor at the final buzzer.
Megabond, thus, kept its hold of the solo lead with a clean 5-0 slate, while Davies Paints dropped to 2-3 in a tie with Dorma and Fenestram.
In the other games, CMI beat Fenestram in overtime, 71-67, to stay at the second spot with a 4-1 win-loss record, while Dorma dealt the listless Phoenix its fifth straight loss in lopsided manner, 85-55. — EBV (FREEMAN)
