Philippines under-19 squad starts AFC bid vs Australia today

CEBU, Philippines - The Philippine under-19 squad which includes two Cebuano booters in Kintaro Miyagi and Jordan Blair Jarvis starts their bid in the 2015 Asian Football Confederation Under-19 Championships as they take on Australia at the Laos National Stadium in Vientiane, Laos.

Miyagi, a former football standout of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu is now playing forward for the Fighting Maroons of the University of the Philippines where he is taking up Bachelor of Physical Education.

 Jordan Blair Jarvis, for his part, is based in Hong Kong and plays as a midfielder for his school-- YMCA Hong Kong Christian College. His mother, Nieva Daydora Jarvis, hails from Poro, Camotes while his father is an Australian national.

This is the first time for Miyagi and Jarvis to be playing together for the national team.

The rest of the Philippine under-19 team that include Josh Miller, Troy Limbo, JB Borlongan, Sean Patangan, Christian Floren Lapas, Anton Yared, Marco Winhoffer, and Michael Asong were former members of the Little Azkals of Cebuano coach Oliver Colina way back in 2011.

After Australia, the PHL squad will face Japan on October 4 and then go up against host Laos on October 6. (FREEMAN)
