Cobra Ironman AsPac slots gone in 28 minutes

CEBU, Philippines - Gone in 28 minutes.

Cebu broke its own record on the fastest sold slots in Asia for the next year’s Asia Pacific Championships of the Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Philippines on August 7 at Shangri-la's Mactan Resort and Spa in Lapu-lapu City.

Last year, about 2,400 slots were sold out in 40 minutes but this year, all 2,900 slots available were sold out in less than 30 minutes during the on-site registration yesterday at the social hall of the Cebu Provincial Capitol.

These slots are for both individual and relay events.

 Out of the slots taken though, there were still half of it that have not yet been paid as of 10 am. The 2,900 slots already include the 60 slots allocated for the pros.

    So far there are already 24 countries represented.

For the first time in five years, Sunrise Events Incorporated has set up a mass registration at the Cebu Capitol's social hall with more than 200 triathletes successfully registered with the help of Smart and PLDT.

Doing the mass registration is symbolic that Cebu is united and ready for the Asia-Pacific Championships.

"We want to tell the rest of the world that Cebu is ready, raring, and welcoming everybody," said SEI general manager Princess Galura.

  More than the registration, yesterday's event showcased a sample of Cebu's hospitality, creativity and even some of its delicacies and usual food for breakfast including champorado with Alaska milk,danggit, masi,biko, mangoes, rosquillos among others plus fresh fruit juice from the popular Cebu juice and shake, Thirsty.

Aside from the Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship's registration, SEI also opened the registration for its other events in 2016 like the Xterra Albay, Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay Philippines, Alaska Ironkids Philippines, Regent 5i50 Triathlon, and the Bellevue 5i50 Triathlon.

After the registration, SEI is set to come up with promotional stuffs to promote Cebu further so that aside from the triathletes, more tourists will come to watch the battle and enjoy what Cebu has to offer.

For the participants especially the beginners, SEI plans to come up with training camps before the race. (FREEMAN)
