CEBU, Philippines – Defending champion Petron Goldberry, RDAK Stallions and the Cebu Landmasters annihilated their respective rivals in Division A, while the RDAK Transporters and Dynamic Power motored to 2-0 stars in Division B semis of the 20th Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Cup last Sunday at the Magis Eagles gym of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
Ed Macasling charted 23 points as Petron Golberry walloped Filmon Prince Medallion, 58-36, Flacher Galvez sparkled with 22 points to vault RDAK Stallions to a 87-63 rout of Gaisano Capital, while Carlo Aleta nailed 20 markers as the Cebu Landmasters bombed out Chick@Phil Basic, 109-39, in what is by far the most one-sided match of the season.
Leigh Dixon added 11 points Petron Golberry, which swiftly knocked out Filmon Prince using a 29-2 punch in the opening quarter. It was cruise control for Golberry the rest of the way to keep its hold of the solo lead with a 10-1 win-loss record.
The Stallions, on the other hand, also drew stellar performances from Jair Igna and ArvidJasong Ong in chalking up their ninth win in 11 starts. Igna finished with 13 points followed by Ong with 12. They never looked back after taking s 33-23 lead at halftime.
On the other hand, Daryl Tan chipped in 15 points, AC Lim had 14, which Borgy de la Cruz and Justin de la Cruz each scored 10 for the Cebu Landmasters, which limited Chick@Phil to a measly seven points in the first half while scoring 56 paving the way for a merciless 70-point cakewalk. The winning side now holds a 7-5 slate.
In Division B, the Transporters and Dynamic Power moved closer to a title showdown after dispatching separate foes.
John Paul Cabrera had 19 points and Joevince Canizares added 11 as the Transporters escaped past AutoLab, 54-50, while Theogene Lim pumped 15 points and Walter Ong and Conrad Ang banged in 14 points apiece for Dynamic Power, which slammed Caltex Delo, 80-51. — EBV (FREEMAN)
