5th Consolacion fiesta caging kicks off Sunday
CEBU, Philippines - The fifth edition of the annual Mayor Teresa P. Alegado Cup Fiesta Basketball League will get underway this Sunday at the barangay gym of Poblacion Occidental in Consolacion, Cebu.
All 21 barangays of the host municipality will take part in the month-long tournament that is among the highlights of Consolacion’s annual fiesta on October 29 in honor of their beloved patron San Narciso.
As in the past years, four categories will be contested. These are the inter-barangay seniors A and B, and SK (Sangguniang Kabataan) juniors A and B.
The contending squads in the inter-barangay seniors A and SK juniors A are Poblacion Oriental, Poblacion Occidental, Pulpugan, Danlag, Cabangahan, Nangka, Tugbungan, Jugan, Tayud, Pitogo, Lamac, Cansaga, and Casili.
They will be divided into two brackets that will play in a double round elimination format. The top two teams will advance into the crossover semifinals with the top seeds enjoying twice-to-beat incentives. The winners will then clash for the championship in a best-of-three series.
The entries in the inter-barangay seniors B and SK juniors B are Tolotolo, Garing, Polog, Panas, Panoypoy, Lanipga, Sacsac, and Tilhaong. They will play in a double elimination format during the classification stage.
Fully supported by the local government of Consolacion under the dynamic leadership of Mayor Teresa ‘Nene’ Alegado and Vice Mayor Rey Damole, the sporting event is co-chaired by municipal councilors Nilo Ferraren and Boy Tibon and ABC President Marilou Casul.
The games will be supervised by Paul Alelu Q. Flores, a former star of the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws during his UAAP days. He will be assisted by technical committee head Aurelio Eslawan. (FREEMAN)
