CEBU, Philippines – Riding high on their victorious bid in Malaysia, the University of Cebu Webmasters defended their throne in the table tennis event of the 2015 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) at the Sacred Heart School- Ateneo de Cebu gym.
The Webmasters ruled the tertiary and secondary men and women’s team. They also harvested medals in the singles event.
Val Stephen Jaca defeated teammate Dannel Jay Tormis in a thrilling 3-2 victory in the men's singles finals while Jerny Kaye Pepito claimed the gold against teammate Diana Oliverio, 3-1, in the women’s class.
In the secondary division, UC's Kent Abellanosa outsmarted University of San Carlos’ bet for the gold while Erica and Aaliyah Villanueva had a 1-2 finish in the girls' side.
Meanwhile, USC and SHS-AdC dominated their respective divisions in the swimming event of CESAFI.
USC lorded it over at the tertiary division with 31 golds, 18 silvers and 12 bronzes, while SHS-AdC reigned supreme in the secondary level with a 12-8-1 gold-silver bronze medal finish.
In football, SHS-AdC topped the elimination with four wins and no loss for 12 points after defeating USC-BED, 3-2 yesterday. SHS-AdC will face ranked No.4 University of Southern Philippines Foundation.
USPF also made it to the penultimate round after dumping University of San Jose-Recoletos, 8-1.
In CESAFI volleyball, defending men's division champion Southwestern University opened their title retention bid with a straight set win against UC, 25-19, 25-17,25-16 while USJ-R defeated Cebu Institute of Technology University, 25-18, 25-19, 28-26.
USC Lady spikers also demolished UC , 25-23, 25-13, 25-16, while UC outsmarted USPF, in the secondary girls action. USJ-R also won against USC, 14-25, 25-22, 25-20. (FREEMAN)
