CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu WDSF Open Dancesport Championship 2015 (standard and latin) is now an international open competition duly registered with the World Dancesport Federation and included in the WDSF calendar of events, putting Cebu in the map of dancesport worldwide.
Scheduled on September 19 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino, the event will be held simultaneously with the 8th DanceSport sa Sugbu, a competition-for-a-cause that serves as the culmination activity of hundreds of child trainees, mostly underprivileged, who were given regular free dancesport workshops and follow-through trainings in grassroots programs held in Minglanilla, Sibonga, Carcar, Mandaue, and other areas within the province of Cebu.
The Dancesport Team Cebu City created 'Dancesport Sa Sugbu' for the primary purpose of letting these barangay child trainees get a first-hand experience of what it is like joining in a professionally officiated dance competition. The exposure will instill in them self-discipline, self-confidence, and self-worth. This experience will inspire the children to train harder and aspire for a better future. 'DanceSport sa Sugbu' is also touted to be the “Friendliest Competition in the World”, and home of the Guinness World Record for Largest Dance Class. It promotes tourism as an estimated 2,000 participants (audience and athletes) from the Philippines and the Asia Pacific region gather to witness the event and enjoy the sights of world-class island tourist destinations in the Queen City of the South
