CEBU, Philippines – Defending champion Petron Goldberry, Cebu Landmasters and RDAK Stallions annihilated their respective foes in the 20th Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association Cup last Sunday at the Lux Oriens gym of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
Petron Golberry trounced Filmon Prince Medallion, 71-34, the Cebu Landmasters blew away Chick@Phil Basic, 80-37, while the RDAK Stallions smothered Gaisano Capital, 80-54 in a rare triple blowout under Division A.
Paulsen Uy unloaded 20 points and Leigh Dixon added 10 markers as Petron Golberry firmed up its grip of the solo lead with an immaculate 5-0 record. The outcome was already a foregone conclusion after Golberry raced to a 27-4 start, which it parlayed into a 35-point bubble at halftime, 44-9.
In the same way, the Cebu Landmasters never looked back after ripping the game apart at the break, 38-20. Daryl Tan charted 22 points, Kyle Valmoria added 13 and Jose Ma Casenas scored 10 as they notched their fourth win in six starts.
It was also cruise control for the RDAK Stallions after they launched a fierce opening assault, 17-5. They sustained their momentum the rest of the way en route to a 26-point rout.
Four players cashed in double figures for RDAK led by Jair Igna with 18 points. Arvid Jason Ong chipped in 16 markers, while Bernard Chioson and Fletcher Galvez combined for 22 points as they stayed at solo second in Division A with a 4-1 win-loss card.
Gaisano Capital dropped to 3-3, Filmon suffered its fifth loss against only one victory, while Chick@Phil Basic further languished at the cellar without a win in five games.
In Division B, Jose Rey Reoma had 11 points as the RDAK Transporters blasted their way past the previously undefeated Dynamic Power, 55-45.
The Transporters dictated the pace of the match after taking an early 15-3 lead. They suffered an offensive meltdown in the third period, but played steadier down the stretch to seal a 10-point triumph that did not only earn them a measure of revenge , but also a share of lead with their former tormentor on identical 5-1 win-loss records.
AutoLab, on the other hand, also banked on a strong start to pull off a 63-55 decision over White Gold Club.
Jed Huang fired 22 points and Sergs Go Bui pumped in 16 points as AutoLab evened its record to 3-3. Romeo Alejandro churned out 21 points and Teddy lee scored 14 for White Gold, which plummeted to 1-5.— EBV (FREEMAN)
