CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano boxer Canoy J. Singwangcha (9-1-1, 3KOs) takes on last minute substitute Rodel Tejares of Malaybalay City, Bukidnon for the interim Asian Boxing Federation minimumweight title in the main event of the ‘Binakbakay sa Punta Princesa’ fightcard tonight at the Atillo Gym in Barangay Punta Princesa, Cebu City.
Canoy Singwangcha was originally set for a grudge rematch with Jerry Tomogdan (17-6-3, 9KOs), but the Mindanao brawler from Valencia City was forced to withdraw from the fight after being diagnosed with dengue fever, said matchmaker Willie Flores. Tomogdan was then advised by the doctors to rest for at least two months.
Against Tejares, the 22-year-old Canoy Singwangcha is still expected to put on a show as he badly needs a victory to seal a return bout with Tomogdan, who inflicted him his first and only career defeat by majority decision last January 12 at the Barangay Tablon Gymnasium in Cagayan de Oro City.
This as the winner of the Canoy-Tejares duel is obliged to defend his ABF 105-pound crown against Tomogdan once the latter recovers from his ailment.
In the supporting main event of the slambang spectacle presented by Thai boxing patron Naris Singwangcha and Cebuano topnotch promoter Rex “Wakee” Salud, the unbeaten lightweight contender Ardie Boyose Singwangcha (15-0-2,11KOs) will slug it out with Phil Angcamor (13-23-3,7KOs) of Bukidnon in a 10-rounder.
The rest of card supported by the Punta Princesa Barangay Council under the leadership of Barangay Captain Jose F. Navarro features Joaquino E. Singwangcha versus Charlie Cabilla; Dignos M. Singwangcha versus Ponciano Rimandiman; and Junriel Jimenes versus Roga Libres. (FREEMAN)
