CEBU, Philippines - Two volleyball squads from University of San Carlos suffered contrasting fates in the start of their campaign in the volleyball event of Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. yesterday at the University of San Jose-Recoletos gym in Brgy. Basak, this city.
Defending champion USC boys survived a tough two set match against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 25-15, 28-26 to win their opener.
But unlike the boys squad, USC’s girls team faltered against Southwestern University in deciding set, 25-18, 22-25, 25-18.
After losing the first set, USC was able to turn things around in the next set but failed to sustain the momentum giving the deciding set to the SWU girls.
The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu girls, for their part, easily notched the win against Cebu Eastern College via default.
In the other boys' division game, the University of San Jose-Recoletos pulled away a 25-22, 25-13 win against Don Bosco Technology Center.
In today’s action, USC will look for their second straight win against DBTC, while USPF battles USJ-R.
In the distaff side, USC hopes to bounce back against the Shakey's Girls Volleyball League Central Visayas champion USJR while CEC meets SWU as SHS-AdC opposites USJ-R.
Meanwhile, CESAFI football and athletics begin today at the Cebu City Sports Center while karatedo takes place in USJ-R Basak as taekwondo will be held at the Pacific Mall.—Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (FREEMAN)
