CEBU, Philippines - The Southwestern University posted back-to-back victories in the Central Visayas leg of Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League Season 13 yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Institute in Barangay San Nicholas, Cebu City.
SWU survived a scare in their first assignment by outsmarting the University of San Jose-Recoletos, 25-14, 20-25, 25-14.
The heavily-favored SWU took command of the game but allowed USJ-R to force a deciding set. Luckily, the girls of coach Jordan Paca immediately regained control to snatched the third set.
Their win over the USJ-R was followed by a dominating win against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 25-20, 25-18.
With this, SWU now currently leads pool B with a 2-0 win-loss record.
SWU is hoping to sweep all its elimination round when they play their two remaining games today against Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and SHS-Hijas de Jesus.
On the other hand, Don Gerardo Llamera Ouano Memorial National High School proved that their win against the University of Cebu was no fluke after posting a 25-14, 25-19 triumph against Paref Southcrest School in pool A.
UC, for their part, bounce back with a 25-16, 25-16 win against St.Theresa's College.UC now has 1-1 record while STC remains winless in two games.
The defending champion University of San Carlos also won against STC, 25-10, 25-12, while SHS-AdC, opened their bid with a convincing 25-17,25-16 victory against SHS-Hijas de Jesus.
Last minute entry, Pajo National High School posted an easy straight set win against Paref Southcrest School girls, 25-16, 25-9. (FREEMAN)
