CEBU, Philippines – Cebuana jins Nica Garces and Mayn Coran brought pride to the country after winning medals in the 2015 Korean Open Taekwondo Championships at Chuncheon City, Gangwon-do, South Korea.
Garces, who has represented the country for several times, delivered a silver medal for Team Philippines in the kyorugi or sparring event.
For his part, Coran ended her bid with a bronze in kyorugi. Aside from the two, there are four other Cebuano jins seeing action in South Korea for the Korean Open and World Hanmadang Taekwondo Festival.
National team mainstay Rinna Babanto is competing in the poomsae and freestyle team competition while newcomer Robygeile Lee and Moises Bullicer are fielded in the junior poomsae and Luiji Estrada is also competing in the kyorugi.
The country’s bets are dealing with more than 50 countries for this twin event including Vietnam, Chinese Taipei, Iran, China, Japan and host South Korea. (FREEMAN)
