CEBU, Philippines – Paref Springdale moved one step closer to their dreams of clinching the title after securing a semifinal seat in the under-18 class in the 17th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.
After missing another chance to win the crown last year, Paref Springdale booters showed that they are serious for redemption after beating early favorite, ERCO, 2-1.
Joining Paref Springdale are Cebu International School and Dynamo who won their respective matches against teams from University of San Carlos.
CIS scored a 7-0 whitewash over USC, while Cebu Dynamo denied another USC squad a chance to advance to semis with a 2-0 win in the under-13 division.
USC, however, had something to look forward to as they won their first assignment in the men's open division. USC dumped Cebu Amateur Football Club, 9-1.
CIS had another reason to celebrate after taking home the crown in the under-9 class after beating their sister-team, 4-1.
Liloan FC defeated University of Souther Philippines Foundation, 2-0, while Leylam FC silenced Mezufa FC, 5-0.
In the other games, San Roque FC annihilated CIC-Mandaue, 15-0, in the girls 18 class as Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu posted a 2-0 victory over CIS. (FREEMAN)
