CEBU, Philippines - After the successful staging of the first Cebu City Triathlon, the Cornerstone Group launched a two –part triathlon event dubbed as 8080 Triathlon. The race is going to be held in separate locations in the Northern part of Cebu.
For their second edition, Sogod and San Remigio will be the host municipalities. The Sogod 8080 will be on May 2 at the Thaddeus D. Durano Roll-On Roll-Off Port in Barangay Tabunok.
Cornerstone Group's Steve Maniquis, a triathlete himself, clarifies that the Sogod event will not coincide with the next fight of Manny Pacquiao in May.
Maniquis believes that announcing the event early will make sure that there will be no conflicts with other triathlon events.
The participants of this three-in-one event will have to deal with 1.8K swim, 65K bike and 14K run. The race will have an elite category.
Joaquin Morras, also from Cornerstone Group, added that to make the dynamics of the race better, participants will have to choose whether they will be competing under the elite category or the age group categories.
Organizers are also adamant that anyone turning 15 years old this year will only be allowed to race in the 4040 distance, this in accordance to the ITU junior coaches. The youngest age that can take part in the 8080 is 18 years old.
Those interested can register online at the cornerstone8080events.com or at the 30 Kitchen at The Gallery in Barangay Mabolo. Registration booth will also be set at the Holiday Gym and Spa.
The early registration fee for the 8080 is pegged at P3, 500 until March 15. After that, interested participants will have to pay the regular fee of P3, 800. Deadline will be on April 15. For the 4040, early bird fee is P2,500 while regular fee is P2,800. For the relay, early registration fee is P6,500 while regular fee is P7,000.
Cash prizes for the top 3 elite finishers are P10, 000, P7,000 and P3,000 for the first, second and third, respectively.— Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (FREEMAN)
