CEBU, Philippines – Aspiring hoopsters who wish to sharpen further their skills could look foward to another exciting and productive summer as the Sunsport Basketball Training Camp, which takes pride for being Cebu’s longest and best-run cage clinic, will take off its 22nd season on April 6 at the Sacred Heart Center Sports Club just beside the Sacred Heart Church along D. Jakosalem Street, this city.
The first level of training, which is intended for the beginners, will run from April 6-30 with two-hour session from Monday to Friday.
At this stage, camp director Giovanni 'Jojo' Romarate, longtime head coach of the Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology said they will be teaching their students the fundamentals of the sport such as proper shooting, dribbling, passing, footwork and other related drills.
The second phase or the advance level, which will follow a new format geared towards the holistic development of the participants, will take place from May 4-30. Training hours are set from 8 to 10 am for batch 1 and from 10 a.m. to 12nn for batch 2.
"It is at this point that we will be shifting our mode of instruction to a higher level. We will now be imparting to the campers some offensive and defensive strategies, on-court communication and other technical aspect of the game," said Romarate.
As an added treat for the students, Sunsport manager Andrew C. Choachuy said those who will enroll in the first and second level can showcase their skills and be part of their indoor tune-up tournament within the month of May.
"More than the sporting goods that we are giving away, we are assuring all participants that they will get their money's worth in terms of the quality of our training," said Choachuy.
The camp is open to both male and female players at least seven years old. Entry fee is pegged at P1,300 per month inclusive of specially-designed Sunsport items such as upper uniform, basketball 2015 model, bag and white t-shirt. Registration is set on March 28-29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
