Pacquiao clueless on Floyd’s next move
CEBU, Philippines – With the clock ticking for a megabuck match between them to get finalized, Manny Pacquiao still has no idea whether Floyd Mayweather will put his signature on the dotted line.
In a report by veteran scribe Lance Pugmire of The Los Angeles Times, Pacquiao stressed he is just waiting for Mayweather to agree to the terms for a May 2 bout.
He insisted the undefeated American has until the end of the month to decide if he wants to get it on. That’s less than two weeks from now.
“My promoter and I, we’ve already agreed to the terms and conditions of whatever he wants. We’re just waiting on the signed contract from him,” Pacquiao, currently in the US, told Pugmire.
He then said they’re willing to move on without Mayweather.
“That’s the hard part – if they will fight or not. We have to know soon, because if they will not fight, we can move on and choose another opponent,” Pacquiao added.
It has been clear the past few weeks that Pacquiao wants no one else but Mayweather, whose representatives likewise claim shares the same sentiment.
But still, there’s no word about the Las Vegas-based fighter signing on to face Pacquiao in what is expected to be the richest match in boxing history.
Now, time is running out.
“We have a deadline, this month,” Pacquiao continued.
Pugmire then asked Pacquiao if he thinks the fight will push through.
“I don’t have an idea,” was his response.
There are reports circulating around the Internet that Mayweather is eyeing a May 2 rematch with Miguel Cotto instead. Such fight though will pale in comparison to a Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown.
And Pacquiao, for his part, badly wants it to happen.
“The fans deserve this fight. No more will people bother me, ‘Can this fight happen?’ It’s time to make it happen. We’re waiting on a signed contract from him,” he said.
