CEBU, Philippines – Lawyer Marlo Cugtas led the cast of winners in the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club Directors’ Cup played last December 27 at the AVGCC course in Pardo, Cebu City.
The tournament was originally set last November 29, but was postponed due to bad weather. Rains threatened the event again last weekend, but the over 100 participants were all able to finish the 18-hole tournament that used the Modified Stableford Scoring System.
Cugtas topped class A with a score of even-par 36 points. First runner-up was Jufil Sato with 35 while Wendell Yap, who shot 33 points, finished as second runner-up.
The class B title went to Henry Chu with five-under-par 41 points followed by Benjie Hortelano with 40 and Yasunori Hara with 39 points.
Dr. Albert Solis ruled class C with a tournament-best 11-under-par 47 points on nines of 25 and 22. First runner-up was Koji Yonezawa with 43 and Mark Warren Go finished third with 42 points.
Club Director Vicente ‘Inting’ Go topped the seniors’ division (55 to 69 years old) with a total of eight-under-par 44 points. First runner-up was Ed Eroy with 43 points beating Razi Razon in the countback. Razon settled for the second runner-up honors.
Jack Lee won the title for the super seniors (70 years old and above) group with 40 points while runner-up honors went to Rod Señido with 37 points.
Junia Gabasa, 13 years old, won the ladies division title with 40 points followed by Joan Hortelano with 37 points.
The guest division title went to Andot Mondares with 40 points.
The special award for nearest to the pin on hole No. 6 went to Radi Abarintos, who left three feet for a birdie putt. The most accurate drive on the 11th was made by David Villono, whose tee shot landed 5 inches away from the center line. (PR from www.fullpointcebu.com) (BANAT NEWS)
