Leylam FC bags Alaska Cup title

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines -  Leylam FC returns to Alaska Cup in style after winning the men's open title besting 29 other teams mainly from Luzon at the Ayala Alabang Country Club yesterday.

This is the second time for Leylam FC to join the event after a quarterfinal finish two years ago.

Leylam's Team B got the crown by beating Airforce Team, 2-1. Rene Sanchez scored the first goal for Leylam in the finals while Airforce managed to get one.

Determined to take home the crown, Ranulfo Colina put up a tough defense until Yani Miranda delivered the second goal to seal their victory. Colina was later named the Most Valuable Player in their class.

Leylam B actually defeated its Team A in the semifinals with a thrilling 4-3 win.  Prior to that, Leylam B was also undefeated in the elimination round beating four teams in very convincing manner before facing Baguio FC in the quarterfinals where they prevailed via shootout, 2-1 after ending the regulation period at 3-0.

Aside from competing, Leylam FC has also been known to be a team build for a cause as they organize tournaments not only for their own benefit but also to help others may it be those who are affected by natural disasters or other circumstances that needed  their help. (FREEMAN)
