CEBU, Philippines – Exactly one week after they figured in an intense finals showdown in the CESAFI, the Southwestern University Cobras and the University of San Carlos Warriors will meet in another title duel, this time in the 10th Asian University Basketball Championship (AUBC)-Cebu Province International Collegiate Cup.
The Cobras booked the first finals ticket after extending their dominance over the University of the Visayas Green Lancers, 81-70, while the Warriors grabbed the second finals berth following a 92-74 demolition of Myongji University from Seoul, South Korea in the crossover semis the other night at the USC-Main gym.
The knockout championship was still being played at presstime last night at the Cebu City Sports Institute in Barangay Sawang Calero near the San Nicolas Parish.
Landry Sanjo remained as the main workforce for the Cobras with his 23-points output capped with a monster slam in the final two minutes yhat gave them an 80-60 lead. Mark Jayven Tallo, the back-to-back CESAFI MVP, added 16 points, while Daryl Goloran and Jovanie Luz banged in 12 and 10 markers, respectively.
In the other game, Cameroonian import Shooster Olago fired 31 points to lead the Warriors, while Congolese Espoir Toyambi and point guard Kiefer Lim chipped in 10 points apiece.
