Poblacion Occidental, Lamac set up title duel in Consolacion caging

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Barangays Poblacion Occidental and Lamac terminated separate foes to set up a championship showdown in the Inter-Barangay Category A of the 2014 Mayor Teresa P. Alegado Fiesta Basketball League at Tayud gym in Consolacion, Cebu.

Poblacion Occidental pulled off a masterful 88-63 victory over Nangka, while Lamac banked on a steady fourth-quarter showing to

kick out Pulpogan, 81-72, in the other semifinal pairing.

Poblacion Occidental was in full command of the match after it cruised to a hot 24-14 start. After padding their lead at halftime to 42-30, the hardcourt warriors from Poblacion Occidental kept their sizzling assault on the way to thrash the hapless Nangka by 25 points.

Lamac, on the other hand, trailed by six points at halftime, 36-42, but charged back with aplomb in the third period then held off  Pulpogan in the windup to post a breath-taking nine point win.

As of this writing last night, Poblacion Occidental and Lamac were still slugging it out in Game 1 of their best-of-three title series.

In the SK division championship, Jugan drew first blood against Casili, 71-63. Jugan lost steam after an early 20-14 lead, enabling Casili to come out on top by four at the bend, 31-27. Jugan, however, retaliated in the third canto with savvy to wrest the driver's seat, 49-47, for good.

The month-long tournament, which is among the highlights of Consolacion's annual fiesta celebration in honor of their beloved patron San Narciso, is highly supported by Mayor Teresa P. Alegado, Vice Mayor Rey Damole and the rest of the Sanggunian Bayan members. Councilor Nilo Ferraren is the sports committee chairman assisted by Boy Tibon and Association of Barangay Council President Marilou P. Casul.

The games are supervised by sports commissioner Paul Alelu Q. Flores, a former varsity of the Far Eastern University during his collegiate days.
