SWU Lady Cobras down USPF

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – The Southwestern University Lady Cobras waxed a hot straight set victory against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Lady Panthers, 25-15, 25-18, 25-18 to grab their first win in the single-round robin semifinals of the women’s’ division in the volleyball event of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. at the Aznar Coliseum, yesterday.

It was all Lady Cobras as they proved too much for the Lady Panthers in all three sets, taking command of the game like it was just a practice game.

SWU head coach Jordan Paca let his starters rest on the last set, yet the Lady Panthers were not able to capitalize.

Lady Cobra’s win compensated with the tough loss absorbed by their male counterparts against the University of San Jose-Recoletos, 17-25, 25-17, 27-25, 25-21.

The Cobras won the first set, but the defending champion Jaguars came back strong to win the next three sets.

USJ-R secondary boys, for their part, posted a lopsided 25-12, 25-16 opposite Don Bosco Technological Center.

On the other hand, the University of San Carlos’ secondary and tertiary boys both won their respective semifinal assignments against USPF squads.

The USC boys pulled away with a 20-25, 25-17, 25-22 win.

USC’s men’s team, for their part, survived a late surge from the Panthers for a straight set victory, 26-21, 25-19, 25-23.

USC’s victory was already within reach, 18-22, but the Panthers tried to hang on and tied the game at 22-all before a costly error prevented them from extending the game.

The top two teams after the single round robin semis will advance to the finals.

Meanwhile, organizers said that games will be played tomorrow and Friday aside from its weekend schedule to avoid delays. (FREEMAN)
