CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Sports Commission in coordination with Yaw-Yan ArDigma Martial Arts Inc. will hold their very first mixed martial arts clinic at the Cebu City Sports Institute for interested residents of barangays surrounding the multi-purpose gymnasium located in Barangay San Nicolas.
Headed by Yaw-Yan Ardigma Cebu Founder and CEO Master Benigno “Ekin” Caniga Jr., the MMA clinic will teach interested residents basic striking through Yaw-Yan style kickboxing and grappling used in the sports of MMA.
The free clinic is part of the CCSC’s ‘Bakbakan sa Sugbu’, a combat sports grassroots program for Cebu City residents. Aside from MMA, the combat sports clinic also includes boxing, arnis and karatedo plus a weightlifting class.
MMA and karatedo will start at 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; followed by arnis class at 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Boxing will have their class on weekday mornings, while weightlifting classes are at Thursday afternoon.
CCSC chairman Edward Hayco said that the idea of the program is to find potential athletes and at the same time give men an activity where they can pour their skills and warrior mentality inside the ring.
After their maiden MMA card last August 30, the product of the MMA and boxing clinic can show what they have learned in second tournament slated on September 30. (FREEMAN)
