CEBU, Philippines - The University of Cebu jins won all but one of their opening assignments in the third edition of the Philippine Taekwondo League (PTL)-Cebu staged recently at SM Consolacion.
UC pulled off a lopsided win over San Roque Development School of Liloan, 96-34, in the cadet boys category, while UC Team B bested its sister Team A, 44-39, in the junior girls division.
In the seniors action, UC-A dumped Indiana Aerospace University, 63-38.
The event, handled by coach Avenger B. Alob Jr. as tournament manger and Kenneth Toledo as chief of referee, has a unique “Tag Team” format. Each team is composed of 5 to 10 members, with the first five players competing for a minute each.
In the second round, any of the members will fight within five minutes without any weight or height restrictions that even a finweight can fight against heavier players.
The coach can also change players in any given time within the five-minute period.
All scores made by each member will be accumulated, with the top scorer winning the match.
The battle, conceptualized by Grandmaster Hong Chun Sung, chief instructor of the Philippine Taekwondo Association with Monsour Del Rosario serving as commissioner, takes place every Sunday at SM-Consolacion. It will run until November. (FREEMAN)
