Ocon stuns Labordo in ALA-Cobra slugfest
CEBU, Philippines - Two ALA Boxing Gym fighters suffered contrasting fates in their respective fights during the ALA-Cobra Energy Drink ‘Tunay na Lakas Boxing’ fightcard last Saturday night at the Island City Mall in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
Juren "Turbo" Labordo failed to live up to expectations after he was stunned by journeyman Fernando “Batang Bato” Ocon via third round knockout.
Labordo, one of the hottest young prospects from ALA Gym, landed some solid shots to the head and body of Ocon from the onset, but Ocon showed his advantage in experience as he sneaked in vicious counter-punches that spell disaster for Labordo.
It was Labordo's only second loss in 15 fights, while Ocon improved to 13-7 spiked with 5KOs.
On the other hand, Jimmy “Popeye” Paypa (15-2, 5KOs) destroyed former WBF title challenger Gadwin Tubigon (10-10, 5KOs) in the fifth round.
Paypa, who stretched his winning streak to 14, landed a brutal one-two combination that momentarily separated Tubigon from his senses.
In the undercards, Bohol’s pride Mark Magsayo (7-0, 5KOs) kept his unbeaten record intact with a sixth round stoppage of veteran Ernesto Fontanilla (11-6, 5KOs), Peter Apolinario stopped Jamjam Ungon in the opening round, Vic Casido outsmarted Albert Murina, James Talaman won by first round TKO against Jovane Abejero; and Ryan Canillas demolished Rafael Sueno in the second round.
