CEBU, Philippines - Rhowell "Bornok" Mangusong once again came up with a double championship trophy during the fourth leg of the 2014 MS Motosuit Motocross Series billed as the '1st Dinagat Islands Motocross Challenge' last Wednesday in Surigao.
The decorated rider from Davao City outsmarted Cebu's pride Jonjon Adlawan twice to claim the top spots in both the expert and pro open divisions. Ambo Yapparcon finished third in the expert category, while Jubenille Abella took the third place honors in the pro open class.
The ageless Pepo Rubi stole part of the show after topping the executive A. Rolando Gella and Danden Catipay occupied the next two spots. Rubi, however, just finished second to Atoy Belican in the executive B, while the top five finishers in executive C were Gella, Jorlan Bandigan, Dupit Frias, Roscel Gungob, and Alex Abelo.
In the open enduro action, Jed Luna came out as the fastest rider followed by Bentot Domo ad Alex Abalo, while Doydoy Bandigan dominated the novice open production after outsmarting Scott Remi and Luna.
Remi did not go home empty-handed though as he reigned supreme in the intermediate division. He bested John Flores and Winson Famorca of Guimaras Domo also has something to cheer for as he ruled the local enduro battle. Abalo wound up second followed by Vibberson Alduhesa, Reyjay Salcedo, and AR Kausto.
BJ Pepito of Daanbantayan town north of Cebu lorded it over in the mini class 85cc after he outlasted Dodong Bandigan and Philip Leonardo, while the top three in the mini-class 65cc were Nino Mañacap, Lloyd Abrenica, and Kakay de la Piedra.
In the special underbone race of the one-day event organized by Benjie Ecleo in partnership with the local government of Dinagat and Lou Ornopia of MS Motosuit, Kirboy Jon Alon bagged he champion's trophy. Sunny Ecleo landed at second place as JR Batantya, Wilmar Cultura and Clark Impuesto took the next three spots.
Meanwhile, action-packed motocross show will be aired over CCTN 47 every Saturday from 10 to 10:30 a.m. with replays every Sunday from 10:30 to 11 o'clock in the evening.
Hosted by the ageless Pepo Rubi, the revered "King of Cebu Motocross," and MS Motosuit operations officer Ramil V. Ayuman, the half-hour TV special features the humble beginnings of Cebu motocross as well as some highlights of the annual MS Motosuit series including the most latest one in Dinagat. (FREEMAN)
