Ericka Lim, Clifford Yap top 7th Amo Cup

CEBU, Philippines - The younger generation shone brightest last weekend when Ericka Lim and Clifford Yap took home the top two prizes in the 7th Amo Cup at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, Cebu City.

Lim, 16 years old, bagged the lowest gross plum firing two-over-par 74 strokes playing from the blue tees. 

The incoming college freshman, fired nines of 34 and 40 to bag the lowest gross plum.

Yap, 24, fired a net score of 64 strokes off a gross score of 89 to claim the lowest net honors.

The tournament is held annually in honor of the late Albino D. Gothong, who was fondly called Amo by his close friends and business associates. He was responsible for the big-time golf events that were held during the mid-1990s until early 2000 before his death.

The lowest gross honors for class A went to Edward Chu with 76 strokes while the lowest net plum went to Peter Po with 69 strokes.  Runners-up honors went to Jun Dayot with 71 edging Andrew Ahn and Arnel Kwan in the countback.

The lowest gross winner for class B was Dr. Zoe Lim with seven-over-par 79 strokes.  Jun Tacocong took home the lowest net trophy with 66 while Al Parsons finished as runner-up with a net score of 68.

Edwin Go Lim topped class C by claiming the lowest gross award.  He shot 84 strokes.  The lowest net plum went to Philip Huang with 66 while Jun Haga finished as runner-up with 67.

The lowest gross plum for the seniors’ (55 to 69 years old) division went to Boy Cunann with three-over-par 75 strokes.  The lowest net honors went to Patrick King with 62 strokes while Rolando Alberto finished as runner-up with 65 edging Mar Selma in the countback.

The lowest gross award for the super seniors’ (70 years old and above) category went to Jack Lee with 83 strokes while the lowest net trophy was won by Rolly Santos with 68.

The lowest gross honors for the ladies division went to 12-year-old Angela Mangana with 77 strokes while the lowest net plum went to Mayette Alba with a net score of 69 edging Tessa Ozoa in the countback.

Thomas Ngo won the lowest gross honors for the guest division with two-over-par 74 strokes while the lowest net award went to Badz del Prado with 63.

King Abarintos won a special award for being nearest to the pin on hole No. 6 while Eriberto Chua had the most accurate drive on hole No. 11.

The awards ceremony was graced by the widow of Albino Gothong, Pacita, and his children Bambi Gothong-Tan and Benjo Gothong. (FREEMAN)
