CEBU, Philippines - Undefeated ALA Boxing Gym mainstay Melvin ‘Top Gun’ Gumban put on a clinical show en route to a lopsided unanimous decision victory against veteran boxer Jason ‘Siaton Boy’ Egera during the main event of ALA-Cobra ‘Tunay na lakas’ boxing card last Saturday night at the Mandaue City Plaza Square.
The 24-year-old Gumban, thus, stretched his perfect record to 17-0, spiked with eight knockouts, while Egera fell to 21-10.
Egera, the former WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight champion, supposed to provide a tough test for the Gumban, but he was outmatched as the young ALA fighter proved to be the faster and more powerful fighter.
Gumban showed to be the more tactical fighter, wisely using his jabs and accurate combinations to neutralize Egera. Also using his vicious body shots, Gumban dictated the pace of the match that earned him the nod of the three judges.
The official scores were 97-92, 95-94 and 96-93 all in favor for the ALA warrior.
In the supporting bouts, another ALA stalwart Juren Labordo (12-1, 8KOs) knocked out JP Macadumpis (9-3, 3KOs) of General Santos in the 1:59 mark of the first round.
