CEBU, Philippines - The Sta.Fe Beach Games gets underway today despite the unpredictable weather condition at the Sugar Beach Resort in Sta.Fe, Bantayan Island.
Bejoe Gimenez, event organizer, said that there are already some participants who arrived at the venue after being stranded at the port going to Bantayan Island due to the bad weather.
Over 50 athletes are expected to see action in the first 5-kilometer ‘Twilight Beach Run’.
This is the first time that Sugbutriathlon is holding a sundown beach run making it more challenging for the participants.
Tomorrow will be the open water swim competition at 1 pm featuring two distances that is the 1.5K and 5K categories.
The 5K will be an open competition for male and female, while the 1.5K battle will be divided in age-groups including the 12-under, 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39 and 40-above class.
On Black Saturday comes the Oceanman which is a lung-busting event for both hard core swimmers and neophytes who will deal with a 200-meter swim and 400-m run in a loop of four.
The annual sporting event will be culminated by an Eastern Egg Hunt for the local residents.
This will be a time for the participants of the Sta.Fe Beach Games to share their blessings to the locals who have been affected by super typhoon Yolanda last November.— (FREEMAN)
