Sundown Beer Run set April 26

CEBU, Philippines - The first 'Beer Run' in Asia returns to Lapu-Lapu City on April 26 with a more exciting twist. Instead of midnight, it will be staged during sundown, Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Harry Radaza announced during the event's formal launching yesterday at Sunburst-Mango.

The first edition of the unique race was held in 2012, but Radaza said they did not hold a follow-up last year as he wasn't able to find ways on how to make the run go smoother.

"But due to popular demand, we are back!" said Radaza.

The organizers are holding the race at sundown this time so that it will not be in conflict with the Kadaugan Street Party.

The race is the first of its kind in Asia and the 10th one known in the world. The rest are being done in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia.

The Sundown Beer Run features a 3K and 6K categories, with three beer and water stations and a "pulutan" corner. The race ends with an obstacle course wherein the participants will have to crawl first then drink a hard liquor at the finish line.

The wackiest group will get five cases of beer, while another award will be given to the "Drunken Master".

Registration fee is pegged at P250 inclusive of race bib, 'pulutan' and drinks. Participants must at least 18 years old.

Entry forms are available at Runnr in Ayala Center-Cebu, Parkmall, and at Lapu-Lapu City Hall. (FREEMAN)
