Lancers pounce Jaguars in Mandaue City Mayor’s Cup

CEBU, Philippines -  The University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers use fourth quarter surge to edge the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJR) Jaguars, 78-60, the other night in the 1st Mandaue City Mayor's Cup Inter-Collegiate and Inter-Barangay basketball tournament at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

It was a see-saw battle in the first three quarters that resulted into a 34-all tie at the 4:40 mark, but the Lancers exploded in the fourth period breaking the game wide open with a comfortable 20-point lead, 78-58, with 20 seconds remaining in the ballgame.

The Lancers welcome the return of former CESAFI MVP Hernal "Wowie" Escosio who scored 14 points. Escosio suffered a minor ankle injury and did not see action in the recently concluded Cebu City Mayor's Cup last March 21-24 at the Cebu Coliseum.

JV Veloso top scored UV with 17 points, while John Abad chipped in 11 points.

James Regalado and Tyronne Suano paced Jaguars with 12 points respectively.

In the opener, the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras stamped their class as they pummeled Raphael’s Cafe, 85-60.

Cameroonian Landry Sanjo scored 28 points for the Cobras, followed by Mark Jayven Tallon with 11 points as Fil-American acquisition JR Parker contributed six markers.
